Register for 3rd and Final Trimester of Curling
Nugget Column #21 – Wednesday February 17th, 2016
You’ve been saying to yourself all winter “gee, I’d really like to try curling this year” but you haven’t yet made it to the rink. And we’ve been waiting by the phone for you to call, but we understand that life gets in the way.
Just know that we’d love to have you join us for the last part of our season and this is your final chance to register before the ice comes out.
New curlers be advised that our popular Rookie League is taking registrations for a final 7-week draw beginning this Thursday February 18th. We expect up to forty new curlers to participate in 6-end games every Thursday night. Individual and team sign-ups are accepted; no experience is required. Register at NBGraniteClub.com/Rookie.
Six teams have already registered for our third trimester Doubles League that begins February 18th. Sign up at NBGraniteClub.com/Doubles.
The Mixed League on Friday nights will embark on their final draw starting February 26th. Register at NBGraniteClub.com/Mixed.
The Evening Ladies League on Monday evenings launches their final draw on February 22nd. More information at NBGraniteClub.com/EveningLadies.
All of our other day and evening leagues are also flexible and would look to fit you into a curling program of your liking. Should you be okay with not belonging to a regular team, all of our leagues are in need of spare curlers to fill in when players are unable to make their game.
This weekend we’ll be cheering on two teams that are representing the North Bay Granite Club at a Northern Ontario Curling Association provincial championship.
Mark Brown, Brad Beaver, Luc Gelinas and David Lawes are headed to Iroquois Falls for the 2016 Senior Men’s Provincial February 17th – 21st. Team Brown qualified through the Region 5 playdown hosted by the North Bay Granite Club on February 29th, 30th and 31st. They will face seven other rinks in round robin play while trying to attain a playoff position with a top three win-loss record. You can follow the team on our website and social media pages or at curlnoca.ca.
The fourth annual Northern Ontario Mixed Doubles Provincial Championship will also take place this weekend (February 18th – 21st) and North Bay will be sending the Bobby Ray-Joanne Come twosome to battle for a trip to the Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Trials March 31st – April 3rd in Saskatoon, SK.
Ray and Come will face four other teams in a double round robin tournament qualifying the top two records to a championship final on Sunday. You can follow the team on our website or social media platforms and at curlnoca.ca.
Mark your calendars for March 18th, 19th and 20th as not to miss our final event of the season. The club’s annual Coldwell Bank Open Bonspiel is always well attended and a ton of fun for curlers of all ages, genders and abilities.
Cost is $200/team if registered by Friday March 4th, or $240 after the early bird deadline. More information is available at NBGraniteClub.com/Coldwell.
