Never Too Late to Join Granite Club For Curling Season

Nugget Column #05 – Tuesday October 31st, 2017

The North Bay Granite Club has entered into its third season using a new scheduling format that allows for three different registration intakes per year.

Whereas in the past curlers and prospective new member would have no other option than to register and pay for a full six month curling season; North Bay’s progressive-minded curling outfit is making it easier for its community to try curling or allow existing players to tailor their season around busy schedules.

The club’s “Fall Season” began October 2nd and runs until November 18th when league champions will be declared and then re-organized for the “Winter Season” running November 19th – January 13th.

This includes Monday and Wednesday daytime men’s leagues, Tuesday and Thursday daytime ladies’ leagues, Monday evening ladies league, Tuesday and Thursday evening open leagues, and the club’s Adult Learn to Curl program on Wednesday evenings.

If you haven’t yet registered for at least one trimester of curling, contact the club today to enroll your team or submit your name as a spare or individual seeking to be placed on a team.

Can you believe it? November arrives tomorrow, and it is a busy month for the Granite Club who will be hosting a slew of organized curling opportunities for all levels of players.

This Friday November 3rd will be the first of four “Community Game Nights” scheduled for this season on the first Friday of the month. This event is open to the public, costs $20/person and includes: an Orientation to Curling at 6pm, a 6-end Curling game at 7pm, pizza at 9pm, and old fashioned fun and games to follow. Each month features a different organized off-ice activty (November being Euchre) while participants are also encouraged to bring their own favourite board games to share with the gang. This event is almost fully subscribed so, if interested, be sure to register right away at northbaycurling.com/gamenight.

Ladies: mark your calendars for Saturday November 11th and plan to attend a one-day bonspiel featuring two 6-end games with lunch in between. Action starts around 11:30am and costs $25/person.

You: yes you, free your schedule for Saturday November 18th because the Granite Club is opening its doors to the community in celebration of Ontario’s 150th anniversary. There’s simply no more authentic way to party it up for your favourite province then dressing up in your best red and white for a curling bonspiel including three 4-end games, some favourite Canadian cuisine (think poutine bar…), and various off-ice activities. Register as a team or individual at northbaycurling.com/ontario150.

Seniors: you may be young at heart, but if your birth certificate says 1967 or earlier, you are eligible for the Assante 101 Classic Senior Open Bonspiel on November 24th – 26th. One of North Bay’s largest annual events is aiming to recruit 32 teams and promises hospitality that is second to none. Contact the club to register by November 3rd and you will be entered into an early bird prize draw.
