League Finals On Tap For Last Week of Curling
Nugget Column #27 – Tuesday April 7th, 2015
The last three days of curling will feature some intense gameplay at the Granite Club with various league titles on the line.
Tonight’s matches will determine the 2015 winners of the Scott Patterson Memorial Cash League for which sixteen teams have been competing every Tuesday night since Thanksgiving.
Mark Brown with Mike Callahan, Gary McKnight, and Natasha Gribbon moved directly to the final having gone undefeated in the most recent round robin.
John Bowman with Brad Griffith, Kelly O’Grady, and Mel O’Grady picked up the “B” division title last week and scored themselves a spot in the semi-finals against Jeff Brown, Gavan Jamieson, Steve Decary, and Bobby Ray who finished second in the “A”. The winner of this game will go immediately back on the ice to play in the championship final.
On Wednesday night the Club Championship will be the focus with Mark Brown, Serge Palin, Chris Chartrand, and Pierre Grignon facing off against Gilbert Waye, Blair Callaghan, Butch Blair, and Rick Green for a distinction that has been presented by Mel Cox and Ferris Auto Electric since 1991.
Come Thursday night the best worst curlers in North Bay will be crowned with the fourth annual Rookie League completing its playoff round with a championship final of its own.
Carmen Weber, Nicole St. Pierre, and Adele St. Pierre overcame a strong Team Alexander last week to put their well-deserving rink in a position to take it all. They will face Chris Bowman, Dylan Burns, and Randy Ellis who have been the strongest team all season.
While some trophies have yet to be engraved, other have been spoken for in time for press this week.
The Day Ladies section re-organizes their teams and competes for a variety of honours over the course of their season and in 2014-2015 these were their champions:
Nipissing Winery Trophy: Fran Wilson, Sue Cantin, Carol Knight, Cathy McCallum.
Burrows Garden Centre Trophy: Jann Costante, Gladys Banks-Bryer, Tricia Wiseman, Mary Bailey.
Ultimate Kitchen Trophy: Jann Costante, Cathy McCallum, Lynn Ingham.
The Green Store Trophy: Darla Esch, Liz Benning, Glady Banks-Bryer, Ev Newton.
Beatrice Foods Trophy: Patti Callahan, Noreen Vezina, Linda Payne, Myrtle Veraldi.
Vezina Trophy: Kathy Venhola, Noreen Vezina, Glady Banks-Bryer, Cathy Rennie.
The Crystal Challenge Trophy sponsored by P.A. Blackburn Ltd., Ontario Land Surveyors was presented to the Daytime Open League team with the most amount wins during its Wednesday morning event.
Real Gagnon, Bobby Ray, Bruno Bin, and Blair Callaghan etched their names in the trophy, some of which for the first time, some for the second time, and if you’re Real Gagnon, then for the third consecutive time.
The winners of the Friday Night Mixed League are reported to be Jim Lisk, Dale Lisk, Steve Decary and Natasha Gribbon while the “B” division champions were Jackson Zettler, Joanne Zettler, Craig Lavigne, and Susy Boulanger.
The Norm Morin award for Best Sportsmanship went to Jeff King, Cindy Pattenden, David Chadbourne, and Cindy Chadbourne.
