Curling Club Open House This Thursday Night
Nugget Column #03 – Tuesday October 4th, 2016
Curling season heats up this week with the North Bay Granite Club’s annual Open House and Registration Night scheduled for Thursday October 6th from 7pm – 9pm.
All members of the public are encouraged to check out the programs and services offered to people of any age and ability residing in the North Bay area.
Volunteers will have booths sets up in a trade show fashion so that you may register or gather more information. Complimentary snacks will be provided and the bar will be open.
Here’s a taste of what you might see:
Ladies’ Curling: No need to convince three others to allow you to participate, just register as an individual to be placed on a team, in a position according to your ability, and you’ll be mixed up in each third of the season so that you may play with different people. Not sure if you will like curling yet? No problem, simply register for the first draw (approximately seven weeks) and re-assess there after. Our ladies’ curling leagues run Mondays at 6pm, Tuesdays at 9:30am, and Thursdays at 9:30am.
Daytime Men’s Curling: Are you retired or have the flexibility to play during the day? If yes, consider curling Mondays at 10am and/or Wednesdays at 11:30am in an individual sign-up league that has teams reconfigured four times throughout the season. Spending a portion of your winter in the sunny south? No problem, curl what you can and we’ll make a price for you.
Open Curling: Simply put – these leagues have no restrictions to participate. Age, gender, and ability is not a factor; just sign-up for the day and time you’d like to curl and we’ll work you into one of various skill divisions. Choose from Mondays* at 8:00pm, Tuesdays at 6:30pm, Wednesdays* at 9:00am, and Thursdays at 6:30pm. *There is a nominal extra fee to play in a “cash league” as teams are paid out for each win as an extra incentive. We also offer a cash league on Friday mornings at 9:30am for seniors (male or female age 50+).
Open Doubles Curling: A relatively new discipline in curling that will be included in the next Winter Olympic Games. Individuals or teams of two may register to play Wednesday nights at 8:15pm.
Adult Learn to Curl: Allow us to teach you our great sport over a seven-week period. Register for either Sundays at 7:00pm or Wednesdays at 6:30pm and we will guide you through a learning experience that concludes with you being able to play a full, un-guided curling game and join our Rookie League (for beginners) or any other league for the remained of the season.
We are also offering Adult Learn to Curl BETTER on Sundays from 4pm – 5pm. This is geared towards existing curlers and will focus on the most modern techniques and strategies in the game today.
Timbits Curling: Curling for school-aged children (JK – Grade 8) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm – 5pm.
The North Bay Granite Club’s Annual General Meeting also goes Thursday. Interested members are asked to arrive by 6pm.
