Nugget Column #01 – Saturday September 20th, 2014
We’re back, and with a vengeance.
I realize it’s cliché to say this, but the 2014-2015 curling season is shaping up to be the most exciting of all time.
And yes, it is told every September like the boy who cried wolf. But this year is different for oh so many reasons, and here’s why:
1 – The Granite Club will play host to the Canadian Mixed Curling Championships November 10th – 15th. We are honoured and the committee is well prepared to welcome Canada’s best curlers to our “Gathering at the Granite Club”. Tickets are now available at canadianmixed.com
2 – The Granite Club is hosting the Canadian Forces Base Provincials and the Special Olympic Ontario Winter Games in the month on January. Both events will attract tourists into our city and spectators to the club.
3 – We have diversified our curling options to allow the most flexibility in your schedule. Leagues for all ages, genders and abilities are available five nights a week.
4 – We will be offering formal curling instruction including private, team and group lessons as well as specialty clinics and lesson packages. Instruction will be provided by our new (and handsome) Club Pro.
5 – We are expanding our youth programming three fold to include Little Rocks (grades 3-5), and Juniors (grades 9-12 or experienced bantam curlers). This is in addition to our already successful Timbit Curling program which services introductory curlers in grades 6-8.
6 – The Membership Committee led by Bob Budreau is unfolding its “Members Grow Membership” initiative. The program puts the task of attracting new curlers in the hands of our existing members who stand to save 10% on their dues for every new person introduced. The goal is “one member for existing member” and we hope that you will participate.
7 – We will continue to offer our popular Rookie League on Thursday evenings which caters to absolute beginners. Coaching and mentorship is provided prior to entering league play. Should Thursday nights not suit your schedule, our other leagues are divisioned to accommodate all levels.
8 – Our Corporate Curling League is expanding to two draws on Wednesday nights. Gather a foursome (or moresome) from work and we’ll invoice your boss for some quality team building activities. Here’s your sell: register and pay before October 14th to receive $250 worth of in house advertising.
All this and more coming at you after Thanksgiving. We invite you to attend our Open House and Registration Night on Thursday September 25th from 7-9pm. Representatives from various leagues and programs will be on site to assist you get acquainted or reacquainted with the North Bay Granite Club.
As always, you will find us reporting weekly in the North Bay Nugget thanks to the friendly people at our local newspaper.
